Port of Walla Walla's Coal Powered Electrical Plant
Oct 10 2007, 8:13 PM EDT
Did anyone see the article in the U-B or the post over at WallaWallaWhines.com (http://www.wallawallawhines.com/index.php?board=9.0) that says the port is looking at bringing in a coal powered plant to Wallula Junction? How is that going to increase our quality of life? Whose hair brained idea was this, don't we already have wind power and problems enough trying to keep our Salmon alive without bringing in coal and dumping it on the edge of the Columbia River? 6 out of 8 found this valuable. why would we bring a stinking polluting energy source to our area when we have plenty of clean energy around us - with wind and water? Is there a group set up to fight this? I would join!

LOL. It's not whether any of us are Al Gore or not, it's a question of using what we already have. We have wind and we have water, why would we import coal? The other thing is that it was my understanding that the windmills cost $1,000,000 each. Why wouldn't they just put up 2,200 more windmills instead of spending 2.2 Billion on a coal plant?

I do not know if the port gets any money or has its hand in on the windmills. If the port was to bring in a coal power plant it would be long term high dollar $$ land lease. I do not know if I like or dislike the idea of a coal powered plant in my area. I just beleive that is the goal of the port.
