1. RE: property taxes

Same here! I thought it was great passing Edison's bond, but looking at my taxes on my house, I saw an increase of $100/month on my mortgage as a result of my land doubling in 5 years. Then I wonder how the renters of WW that use the schools/resources in the county are contributing? I am more tempted to vote down anything else that comes up no matter how much Walla Walla needs a new high school. Frankly, I don't care that a small HS means no more 4A football.

I don't know why people are raising cane over the increase of thier property taxes. Sixtey percent of the electric said they believed and trusted the school administrations plead for money for building renovations and general improvements. Where did you think the money was going to come from? I for one dod not get snookered by Rich Carter when he asked for almost twice as much money for the Edison project then he did in the first failed bond and with out an once of shame told everyone that the 3 million in matching funds was not going to be spent on the Edison project. The only recourse now is to run Rich Carter and his publicity machine out of town, We also need to vote out the current school board members as their seats become available, starting with Anne Golden. They already have the money, the question is do you want them to have a chance to spend it?

Why is there no published discussion as to how the increase in (assessed) property values has affected the total tax collected for the county. It seems that the net effect is a windfall for the county....and to add additional taxes would be unnesessary . Not to mention the effects of yearly updates on the appraisal process.

A few days ago I had some one out on my (rural) property taking pictures. I can only HOPE that it was the county appraiser (in that my partially completed building is involved in a legal battle with the contractor who walked off the job). I think that the county offical should have the courtesy to leave a business card notifing the owner that the property was visited and by whom.

I'm an amateur photographer who goes out and takes photos of the beautiful land around Walla Walla and post them on flickr where people comment what a beautiful area I live in. So it may have been me that was taking the pictures. I hope you are able to get your legal battle resolved to your satisfaction. And that if any county official comes out that they are courteous and let you know.

Where did people think the money was going to come from? Surely not from what the city already has...That goes into the increase(S) in pay the city officials received....NO MORE BONDS...or walla walla is going to be a ghost town...the city officals are running us all out...Its way cheaper to live in Tri-Cities

I am still waiting for the Union Bulletin to actually publish what the city budget is. UB should be informing people that affects people rather than reporting that someone had a batch of puppies and lets all feel warm and fuzzy. Oh, Ahhhhhhh. It's racist that the UB doesn't cover more issues beyond the rich people. Who cares that golfers at the Country Club did something, when they could be covering the Latino Forum.

Now that's not racist is it? Don't think for one second that white people in Walla Walla aren't struggling with housing prices and tax increases and don't think that we aren't concerned. 5 out of 5 found this valuable. Do you? |
