Desired capital projects

What is the project?
A parking garage feasibility study.
How much does it cost?
Cost unknown. The hope is to find grant funding for the
study.
Why is it being proposed?
The study would help determine the best location for a parking garage and address safety issues with locations over or near Mill Creek, including city lots behind Macy's, off Rose Street behind the Barrett Building, and off Rose Street behind Valley Vision.

What is the project?

Extend diagonal parking.
Where is it?
Along Alder Street.
How much does it cost?
Cost is unknown, but would include changing to corner traffic lights to overhead positions.
Why is it being proposed?
To create more parking spaces downtown while also extending the perceived footprint of downtown, which many believe consists only of Main Street.

What is the project?

Extend streetscape improvements.
Where is it?
On Rose and Alder streets from Fourth Avenue to Palouse Street, plus Colville Street from Main to Oak streets.
How much does it cost?
Cost unknown. Expected funding sources include possible Local Improvement District financing, city investment and state and federal grants, if possible.
Why is it being proposed?
As part of implementation of the downtown master plan, improvements to Alder Street, already jump-started by private-sector investments, would extend the perceived footprint of downtown, while
providing potential for more business opportunity, more parking and a safer pedestrian environment.

What is the project?

Uncovering and/or enhancing the Mill Creek channel through downtown.
How much does it cost?
Cost unknown.
Why is it being proposed?
To better integrate and beautify the flood channel through downtown.

What is the project?

Downtown Walla Walla parking garage.
Where is it?
Not yet determined.
How much does it cost?
Cost unknown. Funding is expected to come from a combination of possible sources, including Local Improvement District taxes, the city, grant funds where available and/or a possible general-obligation
bond. The garage would likely be a pay-to-park facility when complete.
Why is it being proposed?
To handle the increasing demand for parking from downtown employees, consumers and visitors.
